Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority

The Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority (SMSA) has successfully carried out an International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code audit at the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA), reaffirming the nation’s commitment to international maritime safety and security standards.
The audit, held at Port Victoria, highlights Seychelles’ proactive efforts to safeguard its critical maritime infrastructure and ensure the continued smooth flow of trade through one of the most strategically significant ports in the southwest Indian Ocean.
The ISPS Code, part of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Chapter XI-2, sets the global framework for maritime and port facility security. Regular audits such as this are essential to identify potential vulnerabilities and strengthen compliance with international standards.
Opened in 1973, Port Victoria remains a major regional hub for industrial fishing, cruise vessels, and superyachts. The SPA has been modernizing its operations, including a shift to a mandatory digital access system for the Port Victoria Management Information System (PVMIS) starting January 2025. The digital transition aims to streamline port processes and improve efficiency for more than 140 clearing agents nationwide.
The successful completion of the SMSA audit underscores Seychelles’ steadfast dedication to maintaining high levels of maritime security protecting trade routes, minimizing operational risks, and enhancing investor and industry confidence in its ports.
